Item description:

Antique Edwardian Belle Époque 22.50ct. Conch Pearl and Diamond Necklace in Platinum, circa 1905 Of foliage design, suspending to the front with fifteen graduated drop shape conch pearls measuring approximately 5.20x5.10x9.80mm to 3.55x4.15x6.90mm weighing a total of 90 grains or 22.50 carats, highlighted by a total of 226 circular-cut (old European round brilliant) diamonds together weighing approximately 1.30 carats, mounted in platinum and 18 karat yellow gold, length approximately 400mm. The present necklace comes from the important collection of Roberto Sciaguato, who is one of the most prominent experts in rare pearls and the necklace has been exclusively exhibited on a whole page within Sciaguato’s book “Rare Perle Naturali” (being one of the sources used by gem labs worldwide like GIA, etc.). Provenance: Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Oct 2013 auction sale Literature: Rare Perle Naturali – Conch and Melo pearls, Roberto Sciaguato, 2004, p.74 Conch pearls, having this intense color and flame pattern and further being part of an antique and collectible Edwardian platinum jewel of superb provenance, are considered very scarce and seldomly seen at sales. Similar to this piece of antique jewelry are other jewels crafted during that same period by important firms like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co., Chaumet, Mauboussin, etc. Current prices for ordinary and loose conch pearls of similar sizes, shape and appearance tend to go towards the $3,000 per carat mark and the present necklace contains over 20 carats of conch pearls. Absolutely scarce antique collector piece and one of the rare Edwardian / Belle Epoque era platinum, diamond and conch pearl necklaces and jewels in general.
