Item description:

See scan - absolutely perfect condition. The medal itself is in PROOF / MINT condition with its true original matt of the portrait and reverse relief parts. This is the extremely scarce Bulgarian Royal Arts and Science silver medal - King Ferdinand I issue with crown and original ribbon. The medal comes also with its original case of issue and the genuine document award paper with a No.54. Only about 20 or so such pieces have ever been awarded and throughout its 70 year history of this medal and 3 kings - only a total of 300 medals have been awarded and this includes those awarded during the Regency period... So far there is only one award document of this period known to exist in a collector and the one listed now at VicMart is the 2nd piece. This has been the last medal award ceremony that a King Ferdinand crowned 1908 issue of this medal decoration has been awarded. Also it is the first ceremony where the new King Boris III awarded this medal. After Ferdinand's abdication after WWI from the throne, his son King Boris III took power and the reign, but until 1920 there was still no Boris issue of this medal manufactured and minted. Thus he awarded the first ones with his father's Ferdinand issues. The award doc includes King Boris III personal autograph in bold black ink and such a high decoration used to be signed in personal. The doc itself is printed in color chorme lithography / litho print and is a very beutiful piece itslelf. The person who received this highest award is Proffesor Petko Stoyanov / Stoianof from the Bulgarian National University and he was some sort of a genius in the area of financial and fiscal law and a dean of this faculty. later on he bacame a member of the parlaiment, as well as a Minister of Finance for a short period of time. He was one of the greatest opposition to the Bulgarian communists and socialist party even long before WWII and after WWII when the communist partisans took power they've thrown him into jail and the communist concentration camp in Beliane. prof. Petko Stoianov is also related to the Macedonia / Macedonian VMRO freedom movement. This 1908 Ferdinand crowned issue of the Arts & Sciences Medal is one of the rarest and scarcest Bulgarian medals to exist. So far I know only of 2 or 3 pieces to exist in collectors.
